Transforming lives through stories

We are the UK’s first Story Centre for children aged 0-11 and their families, proudly based in Newham, East London. Annually, over 125,000 visitors take part in our programme and over 300 schools visit for bespoke workshops. In total, one in ten experiences Discover for free.

We believe stories are critical to child development, that they can transform lives and shape strong communities.  You can help us write the next chapter…

£10 Spark a Story

Your gift enables a child to experience Discover for free.

£25 Ignite their Imagination

Open the door to year-round access for a child and their carer to discover the joy of books, storytelling and creative play together.

£50 Help more families experience the magic

In a borough with one of the highest levels of homelessness, our Story Sandwich programme gives families without a permanent home a safe space to read and play together.

£100 – Transform futures through stories

We believe stories transform lives. Your gift supports Discover’s education and outreach work bringing the magic of books into local schools and community organisations across Newham and beyond with Discover’s hands-on, multi-sensory story-sharing methodology.

Discover is a charity and, each year, we need to raise approximately £500,000 to continue our award-winning artistic programme, and our community and education programmes. Ensuring that as many families as possible can take part, regardless of their circumstances, is central to our work.

Become part of our Story Circle

By joining the Story Circle with a gift of £250 or more, you become part of a special community supporting Discover’s work with children, families and schools across Newham and East London. The Story Circle is a community of supporters who believe every child deserves the chance to discover the magic of stories and have the best possible start in life as a lover of books.

Your generosity helps ensure that thousands of children each year — especially those who might not otherwise have the opportunity — can experience storytelling workshops, creative play and immersive story experiences that build the joy in reading that has been shown to have unbeatable impact in ensuring children can overcome barriers to opportunity and grow up happy, healthy and thriving.
