A nature-based sensory storytelling workshop for mainstream and SEND schools.
Explore ideas of environmental change, caring for others, and our connection to the natural world through nature-inspired fables, sensory activities, and storytelling games.
Story Seed is the legacy of a three-year project, co-developed with schools in Newham and our in-house Story Builder team. It is designed to bring inclusive sensory storytelling into schools.
Original development of this project was supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
What’s included:
- A nature-based sensory storytelling and Story Building session (1.5 hours for mainstream groups, 45 minutes for SEND provision)
- Led by trained Story Builders experienced in inclusive delivery
- Can be delivered outdoors in the school playground, green space, or nearby park
- Designed to support English, PSHE, and Art & Design curriculum links
- Utilises multi-sensory tools and storytelling techniques to engage diverse learning needs
Why Nature? Why Now?
Newham has the least green space per person in all of London. In response to feedback from local teachers, we’re creating opportunities for students to learn outdoors, even in schools with limited space. Our workshop uses nature as a stimulus — encouraging children to look, listen, explore and create, especially those who may not thrive in traditional classroom settings.
Safe working in your school
Story Builders have recently undergone Safeguarding and Child Protection training and have current Enhanced DBS checks, which will be brought and shown to reception staff at your school.
