Years 5 – 6: Story Seed

All projects

Free environmental story workshops for Years 5 and 6.

Discover is offering an exciting new project for East London schools, to take part in creative story and arts workshops helping classes to create their own Environmental Fable from October to December 2024.

At the end of the project participating schools will then unite to share their work for a big sharing day in December 2024.

Two classes from each year group (year 5 and year 6) from three East London schools will get the chance to take part in the project, consisting of seven workshops helping pupils create their own Environmental Fable to be showcased at the celebration sharing event.

Workshops will be designed for Year 5 and 6 pupils, with activities designed to be inclusive and accessible for children with SEN and EAL. Applications for Year 5 – 6 groups and SEN cohorts are welcome.

Participating classes will being able to make their own group performance or creative response to the theme of ‘Environmental Fable’. Students will develop listening, speaking and reading skills across the seven workshops and each participating school will work with:

  • A resident artist/performer and see a work-in-progress performance from their artist.
  • An animator, helping to bring the classes’ ideas to life
  • Discover’s Story Builders.

All three artists delivering the project are from different storytelling backgrounds – one immersive storytelling duo, one sensory storyteller, and one folk storyteller.

Additionally, teachers will have the chance to take part in an online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session led by the project artists.
