Newham Stories

Newham Stories

Celebrate your family’s unique culture and traditions. Unleash your inner storyteller. Gift the story of your heritage to younger generations.

Calling all Newham parents.

Our community has a rich and diverse heritage, every one of us with unique traditions and customs to pass on.

Discover is delighted to invite you to be part of a new project that will give you the space, skills and platform to celebrate your heritage and unleash your inner storytelling abilities to spark children’s imaginations with your customs and traditions.

In partnership with Newham Libraries.

What does it involve?

It’s totally FREE to take part. The project will include…

Eight workshop sessions in a supportive, exploratory and inclusive space. Facilitated by artists from diverse storytelling cultures and art forms (poetry, theatre, creative writing, and music). Supported by Discover’s Story Builders, with expertise in telling stories from a variety of cultural sources while considering the intersectionality of different traditions.

Professional support for two participants on organisation and facilitation of a storytelling showcase.

Showcase and Storytelling Exchange Day to share your tales with families.

Key dates and locations:

Every Friday from 17 May – 5 July (excluding 31 May, during half term): workshops at Stratford Library (Hopkins Room), from 1.30-2.30pm
