Create a larger-than-life character by drawing around your entire body, then transforming the outline using colour, collage and imagination.
Part of Out of the Box season of May Half Term fun in our temporary space — Discover Pops Up! at Stratford Centre.
Join artist Daniel Wallis to create your very own larger-than-life character.
Our Out of the Box season celebrates imagination and transformation, turning everyday recycled materials into playful worlds, characters and stories. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll draw around your body before transforming the outline into a superhero or silly monster, using colour, collage, and creative materials.
Then comes the fun twist… swap pieces with other creators to invent a brand-new mixed-up character. Add speech bubbles to give your character a voice and a personality, and watch your wild new hero or monster come to life.
For ages 3+

About Daniel Wallis
For over two decades, Daniel has been creating inspiring, hands-on art experiences that help people access and make art – from leading workshops at Tate and the British Museum to facilitating creative sessions in hospitals, prisons, and online. His work reaches audiences from young children to older adults, from first-time visitors to experienced artists.
Daniel specialises in designing inclusive, engaging, and accessible experiences that build confidence, spark creativity, and connect people with art in meaningful ways. Alongside my freelance practice, he works in formal education settings, including schools, colleges, and the University of the Arts London, where he has been a short course lecturer for over 10 years.
He loves working with people of all ages and abilities, finding ways to make art feel welcoming and achievable. Daniel’s own artistic practice now often combines his love of painting with music, creating custom-painted instruments that invite both looking and listening. I’m passionate about making art accessible, relevant, and inspiring.
