Artist / Creative Facilitator (Mighty Mega Saturday Morning Club)

Application closing on Sun 1 Aug 12am 2021

Call out for creative facilitators/companies to lead a series of Saturday morning sessions and digital activities for disabled children and their families or carers at Discover Children’s Story Centre. We are looking for a facilitator to run a term (fourteen weeks) of participatory weekly sessions online and in-person from Saturday 4 September until Saturday 18 December 2021.

Mighty Mega is a longstanding free Saturday morning club for disabled children and children with SEN aged 5-11 and their families. The project has hosted a number of visiting artists from various art forms, including storytelling, photography, music, dance, theatre and animation. The club runs on Saturday mornings at Discover. In the first hour, members have exclusive access to the first floor Story World where they can engage in free play and craft activities. Members can then choose to participate in a workshop led by a visiting artist and including multisensory, accessible activities. To find out more about Mighty Mega, please visit our website: discover.org.uk/mighty-mega.

Mighty Mega has been delivered digitally since April 2020 and the digital strand remains an integral part of the project while some members aren’t able to attend in-person sessions at Discover. Therefore, we are looking for a facilitator who will also be able to provide weekly digital activities (filmed activities, activity sheets, craft tutorials, etc.) to share with members via our newsletter alongside in-person sessions.

We are keen to hear from artists from a range of art forms, particularly from those who consider themselves a disabled artist.

Sessions must be inclusive and facilitators should be both flexible in their approach and able to adapt content in order to cater to the individual needs of the participants. In addition to these sessions, the facilitator will provide fourteen related digital activities to be shared with members via Discover’s newsletter weekly.

  • Work alongside Discover’s Story Builders, who will support families during the sessions.
  • Tailor the sessions and digital activities to the needs of the participants, considering the ability and requirements of the group, with help from Discover’s Community and Education Manager where required.
  • Provide Discover with a brief outline of each session minimum three days in advance, including a list of required resources and craft activities.
  • Arrive at Discover by 9.45am for 10am start and play and interact with families during the first hour of the club.
  • Participate in a debrief with Discover staff after each session.
  • Adhere to Discover’s Health and Safety Policy and Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and to report any incidents or concerns to the Community and Education Manager or the Head of Learning without delay.
  • Adhere to Discover’s Covid-19 safety measures and procedures.
