Creative Volunteers – Exhibition Set Build

Application closing on Thu 31 Mar 12am 2022

Call for Creative Volunteers for our upcoming immersive exhibition.

Discover Children’s Story Centre is the UK’s first hands-on creative literature space for children aged 0-11 years and their families/carers, dedicated to generating a love of language, literature and stories.

The Discover team has worked alongside authors and illustrators to create immersive installations, designed to feed children’s creativity and develop their storytelling and creative writing skills. Authors and Illustrators we’ve recently worked with include David Litchfield, Judith Kerr, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

We are currently producing our new immersive exhibition The 100 Story Hotel with bestselling children’s author-illustrator Rob Biddulph, with the aim of achieving a sense of stepping into a picture book world and being able to explore and play within the stories.

During the production period, we work collaboratively with illustrators, authors, set, sound and lighting designers creating high quality immersive experiences for our visitors.

We are offering university students participating in courses related to scenic arts, set design and construction a chance to take part in the creation of a fantastic new exhibition: The 100 Story Hotel.

The exhibition will run for eleven months and be visited by approximately 120,000 people. This experience provides a brilliant opportunity for those wishing to gain further experience and make contacts within the community arts and theatre industries.

We require assistance with the exhibition set build, which includes scenic painting, construction, prop making and set dressing.

Get-in period: 21 February – 31 March. Ideally, students will be available for at least 3 consecutive days but this can be adapted to fit in with studies.

Expenses: London travel and a lunch from our cafe or lunch voucher will be provided.

To apply: To apply, please email your CV including details of your current course and a cover letter outlining how this opportunity will complement your studies to anna.keast@discover.org.uk.
